The "Cupid Shuffle" has a hip hop/R&B flavor, and the lyrics give instruction on doing a fun dance, which only involves a few basic steps. The lyrics in the song also encourage listeners to create their own variation on the dance, which opens the door to even more creativity and group interaction.

Red Ball Technology capitalized on the entertaining qualities of the song by developing a video titled "Granny's One Eyed Cupid Shuffle" and posting it to YouTube.com. In the video, a 50-year-old pajama wearing woman dances along to the song in her living room.

By posting the video online (which has officially turned viral with over half a million views) Red Ball Technology accomplished two things. First, the video promoted CupidShuffle.net. Second, the company created an additional online avenue that promoted the fun, entertaining aspects of the song. Today, there are more than 5,000 videos showing users doing the "Cupid Shuffle."

"Cupid became a YouTube hit in a remarkably short time," said Derek Hernandez the founder of Red Ball Technology. "It is amazing to see people from all over the country and from such diverse backgrounds participate online."

The song was released in 2007 on Cupid's third album titled, "Time for a Change." Shortly after Cupid's Internet success, he signed with Atlantic Records where his music career continues to thrive as does the song's popularity.

As quoted on Atlantic's Web page devoted to Cupid, he says: "I'm not stopping until I get the [US] President to do the Shuffle."

To create an entertainment portal-the now defunct CupidShuffle.net-for the popular song "Cupid Shuffle" by Louisiana artist Bryson Bernard.

Red Ball Technology developed the site to include information about Bernard (a/k/a Cupid) as well as information and entertainment relating to the hit song. To promote the Web site Red Ball Technology incorporated search engine optimization (SEO) tactics throughout several different online channels including the ever-popular YouTube.

By implementing SEO tactics such as key word optimization, video production/promotion, and social media, the site received 1,000 unique visitors per day within the first month alone. Other results included:

  • Ninety percent of all visitors found CupidShuffle.net as a result of SEO efforts.
  • In the site's peak month, 95,000 visitors listened to music, played games, and interacted with other fans on CupidShuffle.net.
  • The site ranked third out of 9,000,000 for the single word "Cupid."
  • The site ranked for over 30 keywords relating to the artist and the song.

With the high volume of traffic, advertising revenue generated from the site was profitable and Red Ball Technology's efforts assisted in garnering a larger fan base for Cupid too. In fact, the artist-with the help of his fans and YouTube exposure-even managed to set a Guinness Book World Record. On August 25, 2007, more than 17,000 people participated in the Largest Line Dance in the World. The line dance lasted eight full minutes at the Ebony Black Family Reunion event in Atlanta, Georgia.
